Frequently asked questions about Offline, online and Line Interactive UPS.

1.What is an Offline UPS?

2. Which power  problems does an offline Ups protect me against?

3.What is a line interactive UPS?

4.Which power problems does a line interactive UPS protect you against?

5.What is an online UPS?

6.Which  power problems does an Online UPS protect your equipment against?

1. What is an offline UPS?

An offline UPS comprises of the charger, batteries and inverter. The charger gets current from the ac input(mains) and then charges the battery. In the event of power failure the inverter converts the dc from the battery to ac and then supplies it as output. In an offline UPS the input filters against low noise. The transfer time to battery mode is between 2ms and 10ms. In an offline UPS there is no voltage or frequency regulation.

2. What power problems does an offline UPS protect me against ?

An offline UPS is protecting you against power failure, power sags and power surges.

             1. Power failure          2. Power sag       3. Power surge

3. What is a Line interactive UPS?

A line interactive works in a similar way to the offline Ups but due to the technology employed (see diagram below) it has faster transfer rate (0<t<4ms) in the event of power failure. The Line interactive also gives a permanent sinus output. Unlike the Offline UPS the Line interactive UPS can regulate voltage .

4. Which power problems does a Line interactive UPS protect my equipment against?

A line interactive UPS protects your equipment against Power failure, Power sag, Power surge, Undervoltage and overvoltage.

1.Power failure         2.Power sag                   3.Power surge              4. Undervoltage           5. Overvoltage

5. What is an Online UPS?

An online UPS regenerates the electricity constantly. The output power is completely independent of the input power. These units meet the European Committee for Electrotechinical Standardisation (CENELEC) Class VFI. The power at critical load is completely reformed in an Online UPS. Voltage and frequency regulation is available in the Powerware Online UPS.

In addition, transfer time in the event of power failure is zero. Transfers are also guaranteed to and from by-pass.

6. Which power problems does an Online UPS protect my equipment against?

A Powerware Online UPS (double conversion) protects your  equipment from the nine power problems namely; Power failure, Power sag, Power surge, Undervoltage, Overvoltage, Switching transients, Frequency variation, Line noise, Harmonic distortion.

1.Power failure         2.Power sag                   3.Power surge              4. Undervoltage           5. Overvoltage

6.Switching transient     7. Frequency variation     8.Line noise      9.Harmonic distortion
